Overview

This study examines how the brain changes as women become mothers, the psychological factors that shape these changes, and the impact of these changes on parenting and infant development.

The study includes completion of questionnaires (1 hr) and lab visits (1-2 hrs) at four time points (prenatal, 4, 8, and 12 months post-partum). During lab visits, mothers' brain activity is monitored while listening to and viewing infant emotional expressions. Mothers and babies also complete caregiving tasks and play together.

Safety precautions have been taken to protect the health of participants during the pandemic.

Compensation
Mothers receive $50 after each time point (four total) and an additional $50 after completing all time points for a total of $250.

Eligibility
Women (18+ yrs) expecting first child (single birth), not experiencing pregnancy/fetal complications, right-handed, with no significant head injury.
